‘Gowler the Great’ shines for Northants

20th May 22

Upper 6th Form pupil and 1st XI cricket Captain George Gowler has been in the Northants CCC Academy for the past three years.  He is currently playing for the U18 Academy side and has recently cemented his place in the County 2nd XI.

So far this season, whilst studying for his A levels, he has balanced the demands of his studies whilst making three appearances in the County 2nd XI Championship for Northants as well as Captaining the School 1st XI to excellent wins against Wymondham College and St Joseph’s College Ipswich.  This has been an excellent start to the season for George and I’m sure that he will enjoy more success at this level or higher this season.

In the County Championship, George has played 4 day games against Yorkshire, Leicestershire and Worcestershire.  This will have been a tough new experience for him and demands extremely high levels of fitness and endurance, especially as a fast bowler.  He has bowled in all 3 matches and returned excellent bowling figures whilst also being at the crease as the county secured their narrow 1 wicket win against Worcestershire.

His match bowling figures are as follows:

Northants 2nd XI v Yorkshire 2nd XI:  8 – 2 – 25 -1

Northants 2nd XI v Leicestershire 2nd XI:  20 – 5 – 61 – 4

Northants 2nd XI v Worcestershire 2nd XI:  29 – 8 – 90- 4

In the video below, you can see George claim a wicket in the Worcestershire 1st innings in impressive style!

All at WGS would like to congratulate George on his success so far, a testament to the hard work that he has put in over the past seasons.
