Houses
As a school community it is so important to all the staff that we stay connected with our pupils, and what better way than a House Video. #wisbechgrammarcommunity
The House system at Wisbech Grammar is an integral part of daily life at the School. Meeting on a weekly basis, the four Houses – Clarkson, Holmes, Peckover and Sparks – all named after important characters in the rich history of the town or School – provide the opportunity for pupils to interact with other year groups, engage in the many inter-house competitions, raise monies for charity and develop leadership and other key skills required for later life.
The four Houses lock horns annually to compete for the House Music, Cookery and Sport trophies. The Merit Shield recognizes the achievements in the classroom, via the grade card system where grades are magically converted into points (and points make prizes!) with the shield being awarded at the end of the academic year. Finally, the Congo Cup is awarded following the culmination of performance at Congregational Singing assemblies held throughout the year. Here the enthusiasm and melodic efforts of the whole House are rewarded.
The House system offers something for everyone, no matter the ability, promoting ‘friendly’ competition across a wide range of subjects as well as providing a forum in which relationships can be fostered, and pupils can benefit from key learning experiences.
