Homework and Study Periods

Each A Level subject is taught for six 50 minute periods per week. In addition to this, pupils are expected to spend about four hours per week on each subject during Study Periods and at home. This time should be utilised to complete homework tasks set by teaching staff, review the material covered in lessons and also undertake wider reading to support and extend their learning. Reading lists are available from academic departments.

Pupils should become familiar with using Microsoft Teams to access the resources available to them, and staff will set homework tasks via this platform. Pupils are responsible for completing their work by the deadlines set. If they encounter difficulties whilst doing the work, they should speak to the appropriate member of staff as soon as possible.

During Study Periods, pupils can work in the dedicated study areas within the Dwight Centre, or alternatively they can work in any free room in departmental areas of the School. Pupils are expected to use their study time responsibly and to learn how to manage their time to balance their workload. Support is offered to pupils to help them achieve this, and pupils can be placed in supervised private study if additional support is needed.
