Match Report – Girls 1st XI Cricket v Leicester Grammar

11th May 18

Tues 8th May

Girls 1st XI Cricket v Leicester Grammar

WGS win by 18 runs

In a much-changed team from the previous week, WGS was forced to field a much younger side. Wisbech batted first, with Lianne Goates (17 runs) and Charlotte Mair (23) leading the way. Lianne, in particular, batted very well against a quick opening Leicester bowler. Wisbech finished with a very pleasing total of 127 from their 20 overs.

Wisbech once again realised that a tight bowling display would potentially win the game and so they set about defending their total. Early wickets pile a little pressure on the Leicester team. However their middle order rallied, and the game looked in the balance for a while. Wisbech continued to bowl well, removing the established 4th and 5th Leicester bats in quick succession and once they departed the game swung in our favour. The pick of the Wisbech bowlers was Ellie Payne-English who recorded figures of 4 wickets for 14 from her four overs. Another fine performance… well done girls.
