Wisbech Grammar School Prep held its annual end of year Speech Day, a joyous occasion celebrating the achievements and growth of its pupils throughout the academic year. The event was attended by guest of honour Dr Chamberlain-James, parents, staff, local dignitaries and friends, who gathered to honour the dedication and hard work demonstrated by the school community.
The ceremony featured inspiring speeches and prize presentations, recognising not only those pupils who excelled academically or in extracurricular activities but also the many who contributed positively to the school environment through kindness, leadership, and resilience.
A key theme of the day was the importance of role models in shaping young lives. Pupils were encouraged to look up to those around them, from older pupils and teachers to community members, and to strive to be role models themselves.
“The true success of this year lies not only in academic achievements but in the growth of character and kindness our pupils have shown. This is the foundation upon which their futures will be built” Mrs Neaves (Senior Deputy Head, Prep School)
This year’s guest of honour, Dr Chamberlain–James, former Wisbech Grammar School pupil and now a practicing vet, shared her inspiring journey from school to university and beyond. She spoke about the skills developed during her time at WGS that have been essential in her career, such as scientific curiosity, confidence in public speaking, and finding balance amid challenges. She reflected on her experiences in the science department, recalling how engaging lessons and hands-on experiments fuelled her passion for discovery. Dr Chamberlain–James also highlighted how involvement in extracurricular activities, including choir and drama, helped her grow into the confident leader she is today. Her story served as a powerful reminder of the lasting impact school experiences can have on future success.
The school community also celebrated the many opportunities pupils had to develop outside the classroom this year. From drama performances and musical showcases to sporting events and academic challenges, each activity contributed to fostering confidence, creativity, and teamwork.
The school’s recent success in the ISI inspection was another proud moment, with pupils’ exemplary behaviour and engagement playing a significant role in the positive outcome.
Headmaster, Mr Barney Rimmer, commented, “Our Speech Day is more than an awards ceremony. It’s a celebration of community, growth, and the values that define our school. We are proud of every pupil and grateful for the many people who contribute to making this such a special place to learn and grow.”
As the academic year ends, Wisbech Grammar School Prep looks forward to continuing its tradition of nurturing well-rounded, confident, and curious young people ready to take on future challenges.
