While life at schools returns to normality, WGS pupils collecting their A-Level results today have been some of the most affected, having never sat public exams previously. In 2020, these pupils had their exams cancelled and their education heavily disrupted by lockdowns and uncertainty at the outbreak of the pandemic.
Through their dedicated hard work and perseverance, these same pupils have recorded an outstanding set of results that Headmaster Designate Barney Rimmer, was naturally delighted to hear.
“Once again, WGS pupils have triumphed in the face of challenging circumstances. A-Levels are notoriously difficult and despite not having experienced sitting public exams, the results achieved have certainly exceeded expectations. Our benchmark for potential success was clouded by the disruption to their GCSE years so to see their resilience and their strong, innate personal behaviours coming to the fore, is wonderful to see.
I am delighted that the vast majority of our pupils have achieved their first choice University destinations. We will be following their futures with great interest and look forward to welcoming our latest Old Grammarians back in the future to share their stories.
