Dust of your dancing shoes for this year’s Mirror Ball Saturday 24 November 2018!
The date of this year’s Mirror Ball has been released as Saturday 24 November, following on from last year’s sell-out Fairy Tale Ball. The evening offered an auction, gift tree, and games, incredibly well supported by our guests. Simon Rowe from KLFM was our compere for the evening, entertaining us after our delicious meal provided by the School’s amazing catering team, and superb waiting staff in the form of our very own 6th Formers. Everyone danced the night away to the Wild Boys and Nightlife Entertainment, who also supplied the fantastic lighting, transforming the refectory into a truly remarkable venue.
Money raised from the night went to a local charity, Scotty’s Little Soldiers, as well as outdoor furniture which are being used outside Skelton Hall on the terrace and in front of the Pavilion, creating social spaces for pupils, staff and parents alike; this complements the trim trail and outdoorwood fired pizza oven and allows better use of the Skelton Hall terrace. Friends of WGS also purchased benches outside the sports pavilion together with a scoreboard, making a wonderful feature with the new WGS clock
With the amazing support of all those who attended last year, alongside some very generous sponsorship and time donated by the Friends of the School, we are certain this year’s Ball will be a success.
As a new parent at Wisbech Grammar, the ball was something of an unknown quantity. However we needn’t have worried, a fairy tale it certainly was! From the fantastic food and superb band to the beautiful decorations (particularly the ladies toilets!). We all thoroughly enjoyed our evening and will certainly be attending the next one.” Alix Means

On Wednesday 4 July we will once again be supporting the school’s ‘Race at your Place’ a fun family evening to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. This fantastic event is open to anyone wishing to run, walk or spectate, not just students, staff and family, so feel free to spread the word! Entrance to the evening is free for spectators, with a fee of £12 to run. We will be running a full bar, with barbecue and ice-cream for refreshments. Last year we raised £2900 which went to Cancer Research UK and we are hoping that this year we can surpass this total.
Back by popular demand, on Friday 28 September we will be hosting another “Quiz & Chips” evening. As before, this will be a fantastic family evening, testing out the old grey matter, with a fish and chips supper, our very own bar and a huge amount of fun! Get your teams, get swotting and get the date in your diary!
As a group, Friends of WGS primarily aim to fundraise for facilities outside the scope of pure education to enhance our school’s environment. This is only possible through the amazing support of our social events from parents, staff and our sponsors. We would like to thank everyone for all their support over the past year and we are already looking forward to all of the events above; see you there.
