“Magical” is just one word our Prep School children used to describe their new dance lessons!

23rd January 18

The benefits of dance have been well documented and at WGS, we are certainly committed to supporting our pupils by ensuring they have access to dance across Prep and Senior School.

Working with Studio 19, we are now in a position to extend exciting dance opportunities to our Prep School children. Studio 19 is a “Wellbeing Centre” operating under the umbrella of dance.   Josh Wille (the co-founder) is passionate about the arts, health and well-being, and their benefits to young people. They offer a wide range of dance and performance classes, specialising in ballet and contemporary dance and have a great team behind them. Their directors are both young, enthusiastic professional dancers with a lot of links to other professionals working in various industries commercial, musical theatre, contemporary, and ballet. Lois who is one of the dance teachers is now in her second week of running dance classes with our Prep School children!

Studio 19 is certainly pleased to be aligned with WGS and we are excited to be teaching younger children the benefits of dance. The new dance studio is a great environment to be inspired and creative! The benefits of dance are undeniable:

Improves discipline – which aids in listening skills, building relationships, taking directions, ability to recreate and improve on general motor skills.

Artform – unlike sport, dance has no right or wrong and children can express themselves freely in their own individual way.

Exercise – Understanding your body’s capabilities and being aware of how it moves and the general benefits of dance helps to improve flexibility and improve general health benefits.

Wellbeing – dance is one of the best forms of exercise for mental health and countless studies over the years have demonstrated this.
