Sport
Sport and Physical Wellbeing are an intrinsic part of School life at Wisbech Grammar School. From an early age we hope that pupils will engage in sport and fitness and discover the benefits that this brings in terms of personal development, health and well-being. PE and Sport along with Physical Wellbeing are taught form Reception. The programme will develop as pupils move through the School and by the Fourth Form pupils are taking part in Physical Wellbeing and Sport.
Team sports are played against local and regional schools from Prep 4 onwards, culminating in our 18 1st teams and pupils are encouraged to take part in our program. We have fixtures and enter Competitions in Rugby, Netball, Hockey, Cricket, Athletics and Cross country as well as running clubs in Gymnastics, Badminton, Table-Tennis and Korfball, enabling pupils to receive the mental and physical benefits of playing sport.
The Physical Wellbeing programme runs throughout the school, but is taught in formal lessons from Prep 5 to 3rd Form. During these sessions pupils take part in various fitness sessions and each year take part in a block of class based sessions, looking at the benefits of being active and leading a healthy lifestyle now and in the future,
With over 37 acres, we have wonderful facilities with Rugby pitches ranging from under 9 to under 18, four grass cricket squares, two astro-turf pitches, cricket nets, a full-size flood-lit hockey pitch, Netball Courts a 400 metre athletics track, alongside throwing and jumping areas. We also have a fully equipped sports hall with five cricket nets, a netball court, indoor hockey pitch, and badminton and basketball courts. To support pupils in improving their fitness we have a Weights Room, Spinning Studio and a studio where we hold fitness classes. Fourth to Sixth Form pupils also use the Hudson Fitness Suite,
We have developed professional partnerships with Northampton Saints and Northampton CCC and Saracens Mavericks, which has allowed us to work with professional teams to give our pupils player pathways into Cricket and Rugby programmes. We also have close contacts with Cambs and Norfolk Cricket and Hockey, with our Heads of Sport Coaching at this level and beyond.
We have highly qualified and experienced coaches leading sport throughout the School, several of whom coach to a high level outside of School. These are supported by a Physiotherapist and a Strength and Conditioning to provide pupils with a comprehensive programme of support.
